The Most Hydrating Virgin Mojito
Written by Dietitian & Mom: Elis Halenko

Crisp, hydrating, and family-friendly—this is your new summer sip
There’s something instantly refreshing about a mojito—the citrus, the mint, the bubbles. But if you’re not in the mood for alcohol (or you’re pregnant, nursing, making a drink the whole family can enjoy, or just don’t feel like it), this Virgin Mojito hits all the same notes—without missing anything.
This drink is light, crisp, and totally customizable. It’s one of my favorite ways to get in some extra hydration during hot summer days or while hosting a BBQ. And my toddler? She calls it “the fizzy lime drink” and always wants a sip.
Why You’ll Love This
- Refreshing and alcohol-free
- Naturally hydrating and full of citrus flavor
- Kid-approved and easy to make in batches
- Perfect for pregnancy, patio season, and summer hosting
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- Juice of 2 limes (about 1/2 cup)
- A handful of fresh mint leaves (10-12) & 1 basil leaf
- 2 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
- 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
- Ice cubes
- 2-3 pieces of sliced cucumber
Instructions:
- Muddle the mint + lime: In a glass or pitcher, gently muddle the mint leaves with lime juice and honey/maple syrup (if using). This releases the oils from the mint and infuses the flavor.
- Add ice + bubbles: Fill your glass with ice and pour over sparkling water. Stir gently.
- Garnish and serve: Add cucumber slices, lime wheels, or even a few frozen berries for a pretty twist. Serve immediately with a straw or cocktail spoon.
Dietitian Notes:
🥒 Hydration doesn’t have to be boring. Sparkling water with citrus and herbs is a simple way to increase fluid intake, especially when you’re feeling bored of plain water.
🌿 Mint isn’t just a garnish—it can aid digestion and has a natural cooling effect, making it ideal in hot weather or after meals.
👶 Kid-friendly tip: Skip the muddling and stir together lime juice, sparkling water, and fruit slices in a fun cup. Toddlers love anything in a fancy glass with a straw or mini umbrella!
Optional Variations
- Make it a mojito mocktail bar: Set out sparkling water, lime wedges, mint, berries, cucumber, and natural sweeteners for guests to mix their own.
- Add a splash of coconut water for a tropical twist and electrolytes.
- Freeze lime juice and mint into ice cubes for easy prep ahead.
