Fudgy Chocolate Chip Brownies
Written by Dietitian & Mom: Elis Halenko

Rich, gooey brownies meet juicy fruit for the perfect feel-good dessert.
Let’s get real: sometimes only a real-deal brownie will do. And this recipe delivers on all fronts—crispy edges, soft centers, and that just-right chocolate intensity. But here’s the twist: these brownies were made to be paired with fresh fruit, like raspberries, for a sweet that satisfies your cravings and brings a little balance to the plate.
As a mom, food stylist, and dietitian, I’m all about making everyday desserts that feel good on every level—this recipe does exactly that. It’s easy enough for a weeknight, decadent enough for a dinner party, and pairs beautifully with seasonal berries to add brightness, fiber, and that perfect tart-sweet contrast.
Why You’ll Love These Brownies:
- Fudgy, rich, and full of real chocolate flavor
- Studded with melty chocolate chips for extra indulgence
- Just one bowl and 10 minutes to mix
- Balanced beautifully with berries like raspberries, strawberries, or cherries
- Kid-approved and freezer-friendly
Ingredients (Makes 12 brownies)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil), melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or 1:1 gluten-free flour)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Optional Pairings:
- 1/2 cup fresh raspberries (scattered on top or served on the side)
- Greek yogurt or coconut cream + berries for a plated dessert
Instructions:
1. Preheat & Prep
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8″ baking dish with parchment or grease lightly.
2. Mix Wet Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, and mix until glossy.
3. Add Dry Ingredients
Stir in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).
4. Bake
Spread evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the center is just set. Let cool for 15–20 minutes before slicing.
Why I Love to Pair Brownies with Fresh Fruit:
Chocolate is rich and deeply satisfying on its own—but pairing it with juicy, tart fruit like raspberries adds contrast, freshness, and fiber. The berries brighten up each bite and help balance the sweetness, creating a dessert experience that feels satisfying and refreshing.
This is a great way to bring kids into balanced eating, too. Let them top their own brownie squares with berries, yogurt, or even a little peanut butter drizzle.
Dietitian Notes

Storage
